Peter Obi is Our Product, We Want Him Back — PDP

…says his return will boost 2027 plans

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared its intention to bring back the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, describing him as a prized political asset whose return would greatly enhance the party’s prospects in future elections.

This was made known by the PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, during an interview on Arise Television, where he praised Obi’s impressive showing in the last presidential election, in which he garnered over six million votes nationwide.

“Peter Obi is our product. We want to get him back, indeed, because he is a very, very great capital for any political party,” Abdullahi stated.

He added that Obi’s exit from the PDP ahead of the 2023 general elections was a significant blow to the party, but maintained that efforts are ongoing to reintegrate him as part of broader opposition realignment plans ahead of 2027.

According to Abdullahi, Obi’s performance at the polls, despite alleged institutional frustrations, underscores his political strength and mass appeal.

“If he had not gone the way he did in the last dispensation and had not faced the institutional obstacles that were placed in his path, we are confident he would have performed even better. That he was still able to command over six million votes shows he is not a candidate to ignore,” he said.

He emphasized that Obi continues to command respect within the PDP, having served as the party’s vice-presidential candidate in the 2019 election.

“Every political party that gets the opportunity to have him will be at an advantage. And certainly, PDP is not giving up on that effort,” Abdullahi asserted.

He further revealed that the party is engaging in strategic consultations aimed at consolidating opposition forces, with Obi’s possible return forming a critical part of that plan.

“In the fullness of time, we believe we might get him back. It will be a big boost to the PDP,” he concluded.
