Osun LG Workers Told to Resume Work After Court Ruling

The Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) has ordered local government workers in Osun State to return to work after a recent Court of Appeal judgment.

Earlier, on February 22, 2025, the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission held an election in which candidates from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won positions as council chairmen and councillors. This led to a leadership dispute between the PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC) over control of the local councils.

However, the Court of Appeal ruled on February 10, 2025, reinstating 30 APC chairmen who were previously elected. Following this judgment, ALGON’s National President, Bello Lawal, issued a letter on March 17, 2025, expressing the association’s support for the reinstated APC leadership in Osun State.

The letter also acknowledged the role of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in ensuring that local government staff return to their duties. ALGON urged all parties involved to remain calm and handle the situation with maturity.

Additionally, ALGON condemned the violence that resulted in the death of a member, Hon. Abbas. The association extended condolences to his family and expressed hope that such incidents would not happen again.
