Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), blaming persistent turmoil within the party’s national leadership for his decision.
According to a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde, in Ede North Local Government Area, Adeleke formally withdrew from the party on November 4, 2025.
In the letter, which surfaced publicly on Tuesday, the governor said he could no longer remain in a party whose national organs had been engulfed in unending internal wrangling.
“Due to the current crisis within the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect,” the governor stated.
Adeleke said the prolonged leadership dispute at the national level had crippled party activities nationwide and created uncertainty ahead of key political activities, including governorship primaries in states such as Osun.
Party insiders told Newsmen that the internal feud — involving suspensions, counter-suspensions, and court battles over control of the National Working Committee — had complicated political planning for many stakeholders, including sitting governors seeking second terms.
Despite announcing his exit, Adeleke expressed gratitude to the PDP for providing the platform that launched and nurtured his political career.
“I thank the People’s Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (representing Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State,” he wrote.
Adeleke rose to prominence through the PDP, winning a senatorial seat in 2017 before clinching the Osun governorship in 2022 after a tense and closely watched election.
Uncertain Future Ahead
The governor’s next political move remains unclear. Sources within Osun political circles say he is weighing his options, including joining another major political party or contesting future elections under a new platform.
His resignation further deepens the crisis in the PDP, which has been struggling to maintain cohesion following years of leadership disputes, defections, and poor electoral performance.
As of press time, the PDP had not issued an official response to Adeleke’s resignation.
