A new dress code enforcement at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ogun State, has stirred a wave of reactions across social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter).
The controversy began after a short video clip surfaced online on Tuesday, allegedly showing school officials screening female students before allowing them into examination halls.
In the footage, which lasted about 10 seconds, the officials appeared to physically check the students’ chests to confirm if they were wearing bras.
The policy, interpreted by many as “No bra, no exam” — has drawn mixed opinions from Nigerians online.
While some users supported the move as a way of upholding decency within the academic environment, others condemned it as intrusive and an example of misplaced priorities.
One user, Eze Eluchie, criticized the development, saying, “Idiocy is overtaking the Nigerian space. A public university enforces a ‘no-bra-no-entry’ policy for female students.”
Another user, The Picker, questioned the university’s decision, writing: “No Bra, No Entry… Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) enforces new policy before students are granted entry into exam halls. Way to go or misplaced priorities?”
However, some comments supported the rule. Tife posted: “Honestly, leaving the house to write an exam without wearing a bra is not appropriate, as it may not reflect the level of decency expected in such settings. It’s a school, not a club or party.”
As of now, the university management has not issued an official statement addressing the viral video or the rationale behind the controversial checks.
