The Enugu state chapter of the ruling All progressive Congress, on Saturday begged President Muhammadu Buhari to consider only core and committed members of the party in his ministerial appointments.

The party made the appeal on Saturday during the state executive council meeting held at its secretariat.

While it urged the President to resist the pressure to appoint those who would “constitute a cog in the wheel of progress” of the party in their respective state chapters, as allegedly experienced during the last dispensation, it warned that APC would not hesitate to oppose the appointment of a non core member as minister in the state.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, chairman of the party, Dr. Ben Nwoye, said that chapters of the party across the country suffered serious setbacks during Buhari’s first term due to appointment of non core members of the party as ministers, and also for other key positions of government.

“So, we use this medium to call on Mr. President not to make the mistake of appointing non core members of our party as ministers; rather, he should engage those who have contributed immensely to the progress of the APC, and sincerely believe in its ideology, so as to help him drive the ‘Next Level’ agenda.”
