Ondo: Tragedy as lady kills sister over ₦800 tomatoes money

A domestic dispute over ₦800 has ended in tragedy in Akure, Ondo State, as a woman allegedly caused the death of her elder sister during a quarrel.

According to the Ondo State Police Command, the incident occurred on September 6, 2025, around 8:00 pm.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, identified as Iluyemi Bosede, approached her 35-year-old sister, Tewogboye Omowumi, to demand payment of ₦800 for tomatoes and pepper previously purchased. The argument reportedly escalated when Bosede held onto Omowumi’s clothes, causing her to fall.

Despite being rushed to hospital for urgent treatment, Omowumi was confirmed dead on arrival.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, who confirmed the incident in a statement, said the suspect has since been arrested and is in custody while investigations continue.

“This unfortunate outcome underscores how seemingly trivial disputes can spiral into irreversible consequences if not peacefully managed,” the statement read.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, assured residents that justice would be pursued diligently, while urging the public to embrace dialogue and non-violent means in resolving conflicts.

The Command also commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his leadership and commitment to community safety across the country.
