Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has assured that his administration will contribute to the ongoing repairs at Akure Airport following damage caused by a recent rainstorm.
The governor visited the airport to inspect the destruction left behind after strong winds, recorded at around 65 knots, hit the facility.
The storm severely affected the terminal building and control tower, leading to the suspension of flight operations.
He praised the federal government’s quick response in addressing the situation and revealed that work was already in progress to restore operations.
During his visit, he announced the donation of a fire truck to the airport to enhance safety measures.
After discussions with airport officials, Aiyedatiwa stated that flights, initially expected to be suspended for three months, could resume as early as next week.
He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the repair efforts to ensure the airport reopens without delay.
The National Airspace Management Agency confirmed that work was progressing and assured that the situation was under control.
