The Edo State Government has begun legal steps to take the Neo Black Movement (NBM), also known as Black Axe, to court over the recent cult-related killings in the state.
The move comes after some individuals claiming to be leaders of the group publicly defended a building that was recently demolished by the government for being tied to violent activities.
The State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, through his Chief Press Secretary, said that those who admitted links to the building confirmed the group’s involvement in activities carried out from the structure.
This confirmation, according to the government, has cleared the path for lawful prosecution.
The demolished property was described as a base used for organizing attacks across Benin City and other parts of the state.
The government said the decision to take down the building followed credible reports and was carried out under the Edo State Anti-Cultism Law passed by the House of Assembly.
