The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has denied reports that a bomb exploded at the Maiduguri Custodial Centre in Borno State. The agency said the story being shared is false and could cause fear among the public.
The claim, which circulated online, suggested that the prison in Maiduguri was attacked. But NCoS said this is not true and that there has been no attack or disturbance at the facility or in any other prison across Nigeria. The service explained that all its centres are running smoothly, and the safety of inmates and staff has not been affected.
From its office in Abuja, the NCoS explained that the Maiduguri centre is still operating normally. Inmates are receiving their usual treatment and care, and daily routines are going on without trouble. The agency also made it clear that its work to reform and rehabilitate prisoners is continuing without any problems.
The service warned against spreading fake stories, especially on social media, because this could cause panic and even affect the country’s peace. It advised people to always check with trusted sources before believing or sharing such reports.
The NCoS assured Nigerians that it is keeping a close eye on all custodial centres to make sure they remain peaceful and safe. It encouraged the public to stay calm and obey the law, stating again that the prison in Maiduguri is secure and under control.
