The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has alerted Nigerians to expect thunderstorms and significant rainfall across various regions on Thursday, July 10, 2025, warning of possible flash floods and strong winds.
In its weather outlook published on July 9, NiMet said northern parts of the country will likely see early morning thunderstorms with light to moderate rainfall, particularly in states such as Taraba, Adamawa, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna, Jigawa, Yobe, and Bauchi. Other areas are expected to remain largely dry with patches of cloud cover.
Later in the day, more intense weather conditions are forecast in the North, as thunderstorms accompanied by moderate to heavy rain and gusty winds are expected in Bauchi, Kaduna, Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Yobe, and Borno.
The central region, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, Plateau, and Niger, is predicted to experience light rain and thunderstorms in the morning, followed by moderate showers in the afternoon and evening across Kwara, Kogi, Benue, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, and the FCT.
In the South, states such as Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom are expected to experience light rain under cloudy skies in the early hours. Widespread moderate rainfall is likely later in the day across many parts of the region.
NiMet urged residents to be cautious and stay informed, highlighting the risks of flash flooding, strong winds, and disruptions in vulnerable areas due to the forecasted weather conditions.
