Reports from Lagos and Akure indicate that Nigerians were rushing to the market to buy food items as Labour unions shunned a meeting called by the government yesterday in readiness to embark on the proposed nationwide strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
The meeting was scheduled to hold at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) yesterday but was boycotted by the labour unions.
The indefinite strike is planned to start tomorrow due to the government’s failure to meet the labour union’s demand for a new national minimum wage.
While the Labour unions said they will not accept any new minimum wage below N30,000, the government is insisting on N22,500 minimum wage from the current N18, 000.
Labour leaders said the strike will hold as planned.
