Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued two kidnapped victims in Kogi State and recovered a ransom sum of ₦3.8 million during a coordinated security operation.
The rescue was carried out on Sunday by soldiers of the 12 Brigade deployed at the Forward Operating Base in Oguma, following credible intelligence about kidnapping activities along the Itobe–Adumu–Ejule axis.
According to a statement by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, the troops intercepted relatives attempting to deliver ransom to secure the victims’ release, prompting a swift mission into the Achigili Forest.
The soldiers reportedly came under heavy fire from the kidnappers but overpowered them with “superior firepower,” forcing the criminals to abandon the captives and flee with gunshot wounds.
The victims were safely evacuated and debriefed, while the recovered ransom money was returned to them. They are currently in military custody pending formal handover to relevant authorities.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to combating criminality in the state and appealed to the public for continued cooperation.
“The Nigerian Army remains resolute in its determination to protect lives and property,” the statement read, urging residents to provide credible intelligence to aid future operations.
