The Federal Government inaugurated a new smart police station in the Katampe area of Mpape, Abuja, aiming to improve security and policing at the community level.
The station, built by the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), was officially handed over to the police command on Wednesday.
It is powered by a 30-kilowatt solar energy system, designed to operate independently of the national power grid, ensuring continuous service.
This new police station includes modern facilities such as perimeter fencing, CCTV surveillance, and water tanks to provide an uninterrupted water supply.
The project also includes the construction of living quarters for six officers, reflecting a commitment to improving the conditions for police personnel who serve on the front lines.
The government expects the facility to boost police efficiency and foster better relationships between officers and the community.
Officials reminded the officers assigned to this station to maintain high levels of professionalism, honesty, and respect for human rights.
The station is intended to be a trusted place where citizens can seek help and feel safe.
The inauguration is part of a broader plan to introduce similar stations in other parts of Nigeria, including Kogi and Enugu.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the police force and improving internal security, linking the project to the wider goals of the current administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
They also encouraged the deployment of tech-savvy officers to support the modernization of policing efforts in line with the vision of a more advanced Nigerian Police Force.
The NPTF described the station as a modern hub that supports efficient and community-focused policing.
The off-grid solar power system was developed in collaboration with the Rural Electrification Agency to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
The project aims to provide a safe working environment for police officers, which in turn is expected to help them perform their duties more effectively.
