The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has arrived in Bokkos, Plateau State, to assist people who were forced to leave their homes after a series of deadly attacks by herdsmen.
The agency began identifying and registering the displaced people to prepare for relief efforts.
The visit comes after five communities in the Bokkos local government area were attacked, leaving at least 52 people dead.
NEMA officials, led by Abdulrazaq Adebiyi from the Jos Operations Office, visited camps where many survivors are now staying, including St. Thomas Apostle Catholic Church and the Cottage Hospital in Bokkos.
During the visit to the hospital, the team met with the medical director, who explained that some victims with less serious wounds had already been discharged, while others with worse injuries were moved to larger hospitals.
Sixteen patients were still receiving treatment at the time.
Other locations housing displaced people include Manguna and Daffo, where profiling is also taking place.
This process helps the agency understand the needs of the people and plan the right support.
NEMA’s presence is in line with instructions from President Bola Tinubu, who asked the agency to provide urgent help to those affected.
The team said they are working with the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency (PLASEMA) and other partners to make sure the response is well organized.
Some displaced residents expressed their relief and thanked the agency for coming quickly.
The temporary camps are offering safety and support for now, while plans for long-term assistance continue.
