Mystery as Wife Linked to Death of Ondo SDP Ex-Governorship Candidate Akingboye

Fresh details have emerged surrounding the death of Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, the former Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in the November 2024 Ondo election, with allegations that he was pushed from a balcony by one of his wives.

Akingboye, a prominent businessman and philanthropist, died last Wednesday at his residence in Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos, at the age of 60. His Personal Assistant and Media Adviser, Oyeniyi Iwakun, in an official statement, described him as “a man of unwavering integrity, an accomplished businessman, philanthropist, visionary leader, and community builder who lived a fulfilled and purposeful life.”

The late politician, who held several titles including CEO of Benshore Maritime, CEO of Clog Oil Systems, President of WeAfrica Group, and the Olowomeye I of Ikaleland, is survived by his wives, children, grandchildren, and siblings.

However, a source who spoke to SaharaReporters on Saturday claimed Akingboye’s death was not natural but the result of domestic violence.

“The SDP candidate in Ondo State who recently died was killed by his wife. She allegedly killed him by pushing him off the balcony,” the source alleged, urging security agencies to investigate thoroughly.

Images circulating online appeared to show bruises and deep cuts on the deceased’s head and neck, further fueling suspicions.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed that it had launched a discreet investigation into the circumstances of Akingboye’s death, with assurances that no stone would be left unturned.

Akingboye had contested in the November 16, 2024 governorship election against Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and other candidates.
