Mixed reactions have continued to trail the ban of motorcycles, popularity known as Okada in Kaduna State.

Recall that the state government on Wednesday banned the use of motorcycles in the state.

The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan had said the ban which took effect on September 30, 2021, was a result of a security threat.

But residents in Kaduna and environs have decried the recent development saying the ban on the use of motorcycles was merely to starve them to death, seeing that many of them are out of jobs, and survive by riding machines.

Others who use motorcycles as a means of transportation to their places of work are also worried that without motorcycles, no vehicle can penetrate the road leading to their places of work.

Since the ban on motorcycles, businessmen and women, including students find it difficult to get to their place of work and schools.

Dr. Samuel Obochi who works in Kaduna State University (KASU), said “it has become difficult for me to get to work because I often climb motorcycle from my home to where I could get a bus to town. Now, that the ban takes effect, I wonder how I am going to cope.”

He lamented that since his car was stolen a few months ago, he relies mostly on motorcycles.

Also, Mrs. Chinyere Owubike who said she sells on wholesales at Kawo-Kaduna explained that she uses motorcycles to convey her foodstuff to interior villages where cars and lorries cannot enter.

She said since the ban took effect, she has no option than to close some of her shops in some neighbouring villages.

” It is a big challenge for me now, because most places I go, I always use a bike. Now, it’s difficult for me now.

Also, a federal civil servant, Mr. Linus Obudu who works in Kawo-secretariat said with the ban, he has to relocate to another state because, he will find it difficult to meet up, in his place of work without a motorcycle.
