The Lagos State Police Command has explained the reason behind a viral video showing a group of young men gathered near a company in the Ibeju-Lekki area, which caused concern among residents who suspected they were hoodlums.
The incident happened around the Dano Company area in Lekki and gained attention after the video spread on social media.
Many people feared the group might pose a threat to public safety.
However, after investigating the situation, police confirmed that the men were actually workers brought from Katsina State by a contractor for jobs at the Dangote Refinery.
Officers from the Lagos Command visited the location to check the situation.
They found that 89 men had recently arrived from the northern state for work.
The contractor who hired them came forward and told police that he brought them to Lagos for legal employment at the refinery.
This was also confirmed by the security team at the refinery, who verified their identities and cleared them to stay and work inside the facility.
Police also searched the men and did not find anything illegal in their possession. Each of them provided their National Identification Numbers, which were confirmed to be valid.
Following public worries, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Olorundare Jimoh, assured residents that there was no threat and advised everyone to continue their normal activities.
He also warned against spreading false or unconfirmed stories that could create panic.
The police command stated that it remains alert and ready to respond to any issue affecting the safety of the public.
