Former Kano State governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has declared that he is open to rejoining the All Progressives Congress (APC) but only on strict conditions that safeguard the interests of his party and political movement, the Kwankwasiyya.
Speaking at his Kano residence while addressing a gathering of supporters, Kwankwaso insisted that any political alliance must respect the structures and candidates of the NNPP nationwide.
According to him, “Those calling on us to join APC, we have agreed to join the APC but on a clear agreement that protects and respects the interest of my party, NNPP, and my political movement, Kwankwasiyya. No state where you go that you don’t have NNPP and Kwankwasiyya. We have gubernatorial candidates, senatorial candidates and others.”
Kwankwaso emphasized that the NNPP would not allow itself to be “used and dumped,” recalling how he and his allies endured persecution from security agencies while helping to found the APC, only to be sidelined when the party assumed power.
He noted that while the NNPP currently offers him peace of mind, his camp remains open to alliances—whether with the APC or even the PDP—provided that any agreement is binding, transparent, and publicly declared.
“We are not in a hurry to leave the NNPP. But if others want a political alliance that would not disappoint us like in the past, we are open. Even if it is the PDP that realizes their mistakes, let’s enter an agreement that will be made public,” he said.
