The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Abdullahi Atta, has been impeached as a fallout of the defection of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso from the Ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)  to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) .

A new Speaker, Alhassan Rurum has immediately been sworn in.
