INEC Still Reviewing Court Rulings on PDP, Labour Party Crisis

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it has not made any decision yet on the leadership disputes within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP), despite recent judgments from the Supreme Court.

This came as a reaction to various media reports claiming that INEC has confirmed specific individuals as the National Chairman and National Secretary of the LP, and reinstated a person as National Secretary of the PDP. The commission described such claims as false, noting that the public should not rely on the circulating reports.

INEC explained that the names currently shown on its official website for the Labour Party were only uploaded earlier due to a court directive. The commission stressed that the action had no connection with the latest Supreme Court verdict. Similarly, the listing of the PDP’s National Secretary on the site had not been updated or changed recently.

INEC assured that it is still reviewing the contents of the Supreme Court judgment related to the Labour Party before making any official move. The commission promised to inform Nigerians once a final decision is made.

It maintained that it would continue to follow legal processes before taking any step regarding the leadership matters in both political parties.
