The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has suspended the enforcement of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 1991. The decision followed a meeting between the Police and a delegation from the Nigerian Bar Association led by its President, Afam Osigwe, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Force spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the suspension was made in consideration of public interest and respect for the Bar, pending a court hearing scheduled for October 16 at the Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State.
Hundeyin explained that the move was to ease tension and promote cooperation between the Police and the NBA while awaiting the outcome of the legal process. He added that a joint Police–NBA committee has been set up to strengthen collaboration and ensure mutual understanding.
Motorists were advised to use the suspension period to regularise their vehicle documents and comply with all regulations governing the use of tinted glasses in Nigeria.
The Police Chief reaffirmed his commitment to enforcing laws fairly and transparently while maintaining respect for citizens’ rights and working closely with key stakeholders in the justice system.
