The House of Representatives has postponed any decision on the arrest of Bisoye Coker-Odusote, the Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), for failing to appear before the committee regarding allegations of non-payment for a software development project.
This decision came after the committee agreed to pursue Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) to address the matter.
Coker-Odusote was summoned by the House Committee on Public Petitions to explain why NIMC had not paid Truid Limited, the private company that developed the software for NIMC.
Despite multiple invitations, Coker-Odusote did not attend the committee’s hearings.
This led to the committee’s chairman, Mike Etaba, threatening to involve the Inspector-General of Police to ensure her attendance at the next session, scheduled for March 13, 2025.
However, over two weeks after the March hearing, there were no signs that the NIMC DG would appear before the committee.
The committee had earlier warned that an arrest order would be issued if she continued to ignore the summons.
Truid Limited, which carried out the software development, accused NIMC of breaching the terms of their agreement.
The company’s counsel stated that the contract allowed Truid Limited to fund and deploy the project without financial obligations from NIMC.
The company was supposed to recoup its investment through revenue from service providers over a period of 10 years starting from 2021.
The issue became more complicated when Coker-Odusote, the new NIMC DG, appeared to disapprove of the agreement.
