Fear gripped Okunran community in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State on Saturday evening after suspected Gunmen stormed the town and abducted a resident.
The attack, which occurred at about 7:00 p.m. on December 13, 2025, was carried out in the heart of the community, forcing residents indoors amid panic and heightened tension.
A source familiar with the incident told reporters that the assailants kidnapped a Hausa man during the raid before fleeing the area. No immediate resistance was reported as residents scrambled for safety.
The latest incident adds to growing concerns over worsening insecurity in Yagba West and neighbouring Yagba East Local Government Areas, where cases of banditry and kidnapping have surged in recent weeks.
Just last Friday, a farmer identified as Dada Babatege, popularly known as “Old Soldier,” was abducted from his farm behind St. Kizito’s College in Isanlu, Yagba East. Witnesses said the kidnappers struck in broad daylight and escaped into nearby bushes before help could arrive.
Earlier incidents include the abduction of worshippers from a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ejiba, Yagba West, during a church service on November 30, 2025. Fourteen people were taken in that attack, including the presiding pastor, identified as Orlando, six children, a three-week-old baby, and a four-month-old infant. The abductors initially demanded a ₦500 million ransom, later reducing it to ₦200 million, and issued threats if the deadline was not met.
Residents across affected communities have repeatedly appealed to security agencies and the Kogi State Government to increase security patrols and take urgent measures to curb the escalating wave of kidnappings.
As fear continues to spread, locals say evening movements have become increasingly risky, warning that without decisive intervention, more communities could come under attack.
