The 36 state governors are meeting in Abuja on Wednesday to discuss pressing national issues. The parley is holding at the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) secretariat by 8:00p.m.

The information was captured in a correspondence by the forum’s Director-General, Asishana Okauru, according to a statement issued by the Head of Public Affairs, Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo.

According to the invitation sent to the governors, the meeting, which is the first in 2022, “will be in-person as opposed to virtual.” This, he said, “is to effectively convey the messages of the meeting, which are all characterised under the second item of the agenda titled, matters arising.”

The NGF chief said governors “will also receive briefings from the body’s fiscal transparency, accountability and sustainability (SFTAS) team. To also feature prominently are interventions such as the regular updates from SFTAS and another on COVID-19 aid, relief and economic security, among others.

At the end of the parley, NGF Chairman and chief executive of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, would address a press conference.
BESIDES, the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), yesterday, held a closed-door meeting to decide on the date of the party’s national convention billed for next month.

The decision by the Governor Atiku Bagudu-led body is aimed at dousing tension among the ranks of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who had accused the caretaker committee, headed by Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, of plotting to stay on in office beyond next month.

Among the governors in attendance at the Abuja meeting are Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), Nasir el-Rufai (Kaduna), Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Abubakar Sani Bello (Niger) and Mohammed Abubakar Badaru (Jigawa).

Others are Bello Matawalle (Zamfara), Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), Gboyega Oyetola (Osun), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Simon Lalong (Plateau), Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa), Buni (Yobe), Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq (Kwara), Babagana Zulum (Borno) and Fayemi (Ekiti).
