Fubara Not Leaving PDP For APC – Aide

Jerry Omatsogunwa, the Special Assistant on Electronic Media to the suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed claims that the governor plans to switch political parties.

Omatsogunwa, reacting to rumours about Fubara’s supposed defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), questioned whether the governor had even heard about such plans.

The rumours surfaced on Sunday, suggesting that Fubara, along with other governors, was preparing to join the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.

The rumour also mentioned Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno as part of the alleged defection plan. On Wednesday, Governor Oborevwori and key political figures in Delta State joined the APC.

However, Omatsogunwa, speaking to DAILY POST, denied any such intentions from Governor Fubara.

He emphasized that, as of April 24, 2025, Fubara remains a loyal member of the PDP and holds the position of Deputy Chairman of the PDP Governor’s Forum.

Omatsogunwa also addressed reports of a potential meeting between Fubara and President Bola Tinubu in London over the weekend.

While he did not confirm or deny the meeting, he suggested that if it occurred, it would be a positive step for the state’s future.

Regarding the state of emergency in Rivers State, Omatsogunwa argued that declaring an emergency in a peaceful state like Rivers is unnecessary.

He criticized the appointment of sole administrators loyal to Minister Nyesom Wike, claiming they could destabilize the state.

He also expressed doubts about continuing the state of emergency, pointing out that the situation in Rivers does not warrant such extreme measures.

President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, citing political unrest in the state as a threat to national interests.

This led to the suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy, and the entire state assembly, a move that has faced backlash from various political and civil groups.
