Nigeria’s U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, suffered a disappointing exit from the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile after a heavy 4–0 loss to Argentina in the round of 16. The South Americans dominated the match, scoring twice in each half to seal their place in the quarter-finals.
Argentina opened the scoring early through Alejo Sarco, who converted from close range after a defensive mix-up. Maher Carrizo doubled the lead with a well-taken free-kick midway through the first half, leaving Nigerian goalkeeper Ebenezar Harcourt helpless.
Despite a brief spell of pressure from Nigeria before halftime, Argentina remained in control after the restart. Carrizo struck again in the 53rd minute to make it 3–0 before Mateo Silvetti completed the rout with a curling finish 13 minutes later.
Substitutions by coach Aliyu Zubairu failed to change the tide as Nigeria struggled to create meaningful chances. Late efforts from Kparobo Arierhi and Haruna Aliyu were wasted, while Argentina comfortably managed possession until the final whistle.
The result ends Nigeria’s campaign and highlights defensive lapses and poor coordination that proved costly. Argentina will face Mexico in the quarter-finals, while the Flying Eagles return home still chasing their first-ever U-20 World Cup title.
