The federal government has commenced the disbursement of the ₦77,000 monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members after months of delay.
Reports indicate that several corps members have started receiving credit alerts reflecting the new stipend.
This development follows an earlier assurance from the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, who recently stated that payments would be made before the end of March.
For months, corps members had faced uncertainty as the government attributed the delay to budgetary issues and administrative processes.
Olawande explained that while President Bola Tinubu had approved the increase, the funds had to be included in the budget before payments could commence.
He stressed that without proper allocation, disbursement was not possible.
Many corps members had doubted the government’s commitment due to previous unfulfilled promises.
Concerns also arose over whether those concluding their service would receive the backlog of unpaid allowances.
The minister, however, assured that all outstanding payments would be settled, as the government had the necessary details to process them.
With the new allowance now being disbursed, corps members across the country can finally receive the improved stipend that was initially announced months ago.
