Falana Calls for Dismissal of Rivers Sole Administrator Over Disregard for Presidential Orders

Legal expert and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has urged the Federal Government to remove the Sole Administrator appointed for Rivers State, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, accusing him of acting outside the bounds of constitutional authority and ignoring President Bola Tinubu’s instructions.

Falana raised concerns in a statement issued on Thursday, referencing a Federal Government Gazette which outlines that the actions of the Sole Administrator must be guided by formal regulations provided by the President.

Quoting the Gazette, Falana noted that the President stated the Sole Administrator “shall operate on the basis of such Regulations that may, from time to time, be issued by me.”

However, he stressed that President Tinubu has yet to issue any such guidelines, making the actions of the Sole Administrator questionable. Despite the absence of regulatory direction, the official has reportedly made new appointments and dismissed individuals appointed by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Falana criticized these actions, describing them as both unconstitutional and a blatant disregard for presidential authority. “By ignoring President Tinubu’s directive, the Sole Administrator has worsened the illegality surrounding his position,” he said. “He should be removed without further delay.”

The situation adds another layer to the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, where disputes over appointments and authority continue to draw national attention.
