The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has sent an invitation to former Niger Delta militant leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, over allegations tied to misuse of the naira and financial wrongdoing.
According to reports, the invitation letter was delivered to Tompolo earlier in the week.
The EFCC is said to be waiting for his reply and expects him to cooperate.
The agency described the move as a routine step in its operations and made it clear that no arrest has been ordered at this time.
This action comes after a viral video surfaced in April, showing Tompolo at a birthday event believed to be his 54th. In the video, he was seen dancing while several people sprayed ₦1,000 notes on him.
The video spread quickly on social media, especially on platform X, sparking public concern.
After the video made rounds, many Nigerians questioned the EFCC’s response.
The agency was accused of treating the matter lightly, especially since other public figures like Bobrisky, E-Money, Iyabo Ojo, and comedian AY had been questioned or faced legal action for similar incidents.
Critics online raised concerns about fairness in the EFCC’s handling of such cases.
The Commission’s invitation to Tompolo is seen as a reaction to the mounting pressure from the public, who demanded equal treatment for everyone involved in naira abuse.
