Students of Unity Model School in Asaba, Delta State, were reportedly forced to take one of their WAEC examinations late in the evening under poor lighting conditions, relying on torchlight due to lack of electricity in the school.
A video circulating on social media captured the moment the students sat for the exam in the dark. The footage, recorded by an unidentified woman, showed the candidates attempting to write under difficult circumstances.
The woman behind the video criticized the conduct of the exam, claiming that the paper was scheduled for 2 p.m. but was not delivered until 6 p.m.
“It’s not OK,” she said, describing the situation as unfair. She noted that even during her school days when lanterns were in use, students were never made to write exams in such conditions.
A stationary torchlight was reportedly used to illuminate the classroom while the students wrote the exam.
The incident has sparked concerns over exam administration and infrastructure challenges in public schools.
