The Delta State Police Command says it has neutralised two suspected kidnappers during a gun battle at Owa Ekei, Boji Boji Owa axis in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Asaba, noting that the operation was carried out in collaboration with men of Operation Delta Sweep.
According to Edafe, the breakthrough followed credible intelligence received on September 17, 2025, at about 11 a.m., that some suspected kidnappers were sighted at Nniogbo Owa Ekei, Boji Boji Owa.
He said:
“The DPO Owa-Oyibu swiftly mobilised a combined team of policemen and vigilantes alongside two teams of Operation Delta Sweep and stormed the bush. On sighting the operatives, the suspects opened fire, which was immediately repelled.
In the fierce gun duel, two of the suspected kidnappers sustained fatal gunshot injuries and were rushed to Owa-Alero General Hospital, where they were later confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.”
Items recovered from the suspects include one AK-47 rifle, forty rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition, and two magazines.
Edafe added that a manhunt has been launched to track down other fleeing members of the gang.
Reports indicate that the Owa Ekei–Boji Boji Owa axis, Abavo, and neighbouring communities have in recent times been plagued by frequent kidnappings, forcing many residents to abandon their farms out of fear.
The police assured that efforts are ongoing to restore safety and dismantle criminal networks across the state.
