The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled November 20 for the delivery of judgment in the terrorism case against Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.
Justice James Omotosho announced the date after Kanu failed to present his defense, having exhausted the six days allotted by the court for this purpose. The judge stated that since Kanu did not take advantage of the opportunity to conduct his defense, he could not claim that his constitutional right to a fair hearing was violated.
Additionally, on Friday, Kanu filed a motion challenging his trial, arguing that terrorism is no longer an offense in Nigeria. He pointed out that the previous Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act had been repealed, rendering the charges against him invalid. Kanu contended that there is no case against him and requested that the court dismiss the charges, allowing him to return home.
