The governorship ambitions of Hon Agboola Ajayi, Ondo State Deputy Governor and the candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and that of his counterpart, Mr Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have reportedly divided some governors elected on the platform of the PDP, Starnews Nigeria has gathered.

Investigation by our correspondent revealed that some of the governors were divided in their opinions during a conference telephone call with former President Olusegun Obasanjo following the visit of Dr. Segun Mimiko to Obasanjo on Tuesday.

Upon invitation, the former Ondo State governor, Olusegun Mimiko had visited Obasanjo, the former president of Nigeria, where discussions were held on the possibility of having an alliance against the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ondo State by the two opposition partie, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

At the meeting, Mimiko was said to have justified and convinced Obasanjo beyond any reasonable doubt why the candidacy of Jegede, the candidate of the PDP cannot fly.

Mimiko was said to have prevailed on Obasanjo to advise the leadership of the PDP to talk to Jegede to step down for Ajayi if the two parties would work together ahead of the governorship election slated for October 10, 2020.

A source at the meeting quoted Mimiko to have told Obasanjo that: ”Ajayi is a grassroots politician with executive and legislative experiences and he is more rooted in the politics of Ondo State than Jegede.”

The source hinted our correspondent that Mimiko further told Obasanjo that the candidature of Jegede runs fowl with the political tradition of the good people of Ondo State in power-sharing – an action he reportedly said he took in 2016 but regretted it.

Starnews Nigeria can report that the PDP governors who were in talks with Obasanjo were said to have been divided with some of them sharing in the views of Mimko while others were said to be against it.
