Breaking: Massive defection looms in Ondo PDP
July 28, 2020
The recently conducted Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Primary election has exposed the party to the danger of losing the coming governorship election to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State.
Starnews NG reports that the Primary election was heavily enraged with huge financial inducement.
Governor Seyi Makinde and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar were allegedly fingered in the inducement of funds to favour Mr Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), the winner of the primary and the flag bearer of the PDP in Ondo State against the clarion call of Ondo South to produce the next governor.
Starnews NG learnt on Saturday morning that the majority of the leaders of the PDP in Ondo South are already in talks with Governor Oluwarotimi while it was revealed that some other groups of leaders are already gathering forces together with former governor Segun Mimiko for the emergence of a third force that would produce a southern candidate ahead of the election on October 10 this year.
Findings have shown that it is the turn of the southern district of Ondo State to produce the governor. A source hinted that the PDP shot itself in the leg by featuring a candidate from the unfavoured Central Senatorial District while the south which has been the stronghold of the PDP is unfairly denied the ticket of the party.
Starnews NG gathered that those who are in talks with Governor Akeredolu believed that the governor only had four years to spend which means that the southerners would only wait for four years to take their turn, while those against Jegede are of the views that the Southern part of Ondo State cannot wait for 8 years of Eyitayo Jegede at the Central after 8 years uninterrupted tenors of former Governor Segun Mimiko.
The investigation by Starnews NG had also revealed that those routing for third force are opposed to both Jegede and Governor Akeredolu.
A former chairman of the party who pleaded anonimity told Starnews NG that Ondo South is the base of PDP, while Ondo North is the base of the ruling APC while the Central is divided between the two major political parties.
As it is, Starnews NG can report that it is the political party that puts in place the right political equation that would win the governorship seat come October 10.

- FRSC seizes 222 trailers conveying 3,169 passengers The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) inter-agency task force has apprehended 222 trailers transporting 3,169 passengers across Niger, Bauchi, Taraba, and Kaduna states. The task force, established to curb the transportation of passengers alongside goods, aims to reduce road traffic accidents and associated casualties caused by the reckless conduct of trailer drivers. Corps Marshal Dauda Ali-Biu announced during a press briefing in Abuja that the initiative involves collaboration with various transport unions, security agencies, and traffic management authorities. “As part of the operations, the JTF dropped over 2,440 passengers who were mandated to take alternative vehicles designed for conveying passengers. “Since the commencement of the JTF on March 23, the monster of road traffic crashes involving trailers and the fatalities that come with them have been adequately tamed and the situation arrested on all fronts,” he said. Mr Ali-Biu added that the corps had gone a step further by prosecuting recalcitrant trailer drivers aside the conventional enforcement of traffic regulations. This, he said, was done through mobile courts in the 36 states of the federation and the FCT. “Subsequently, more drastic measures, including suspension and withdrawal of the national driver’s licence, will be carried out. “Permit me to reiterate at this critical moment that, on our part, as an agency of government charged with road safety supervision, we have resolved to continue in our strive to make the nation’s highways safe. “Part of our resolve is to consolidate on the gains recorded so far through the strategic combat operations of the joint task force. “We have decided to sustain the tempo by extending the operations of the JTF to other critical corridors across the nation. “The essence of this extension is to give it a holistic approach,” the corps marshal said.

It’s just over ambition and selfishness that is troubling our people. For how long can it take a section of the district to filed their governor. If Ajai had been patient a little, things wouldn’t have been like this. But let the Southern district try another formidable means and let’s see what will happen. Best of luck!
