About 300 members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have defected to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

The defectors were received at the state secretariat of the PDP at Area 10, Abuja, on Tuesday led by Alhaji Ibrahim Musa, a former APC stalwart in Karu ward.

Musa said their decision to dump the party to PDP was as a result of crisis and conflict of interests in their former party.

He said they saw the PDP as another alternative platform on which they could work in unity to take over government from the APC in 2019.

He said he and 300 other former members of the APC had regretted the devastating condition of the country.

“Unfortunately the APC government which promised to fight corruption has turned the fight into witch-hunting of political opponents and the main issues at hand are left unattended to,” he said.

He said the APC-led administration had no respect for the rule of law and freedom of speech as enshrined in the country’s constitution, adding that the APC government has abandoned its responsibility of management of human resources by encouraging entrepreneurship.

The chairman of PDP in the FCT, Alhaji Ibrahim Biko, who received the defectors, commended them for taking a bold decision to pitch their tent with the PDP in the FCT.

He said the party was expecting to receive more defectors from APC in the coming days, explaining that the days of the ruling APC in FCT were numbered.

Reacting, the spokesman of the APC in FCT, Engineer Adaji Usman, said those who claimed to have defected were not original members of the APC, saying they were only on errand and they had gone back to where they belonged, saying the party was confident of winning all elections in FCT in 2019.

He said the party was therefore unperturbed over the defection, adding that the ruling APC in the FCT would continue to wax stronger.
