Nigeria’s most capped international, Ahmed Musa, has officially announced his retirement from international football, bringing to an end a remarkable 15-year career with the Super Eagles.
The former Super Eagles captain made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, describing his journey with the national team as one filled with pride, sacrifice and unwavering commitment to Nigeria.
“I wore this badge with pride for 15 years. From a 17-year-old boy who answered every call for Nigeria, to becoming the most capped Super Eagle with 111 appearances,” Musa wrote.
The 31-year-old winger, who debuted for Nigeria as a teenager, retires as a 2013 AFCON champion, Nigeria’s highest goal scorer in FIFA World Cup history, and the most capped player in the history of the national team, with 111 appearances.
Reflecting on his career, Musa added:
“Captain. Servant. Believer. I gave everything. Thank you, Nigeria… my heart will always beat green.”
Musa’s international career spanned multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and World Cups, during which he became widely admired for his leadership, discipline and consistency on the pitch.
