South Africa has taken lead as the largest producer of beef in the whole of Africa following the 2019 report by the Food and Agriculture Organization Corporate Statistical Database (FAOSTAT).

As at 2019, according to a Statistical survey by FAOSTAT, in a table sighted online by Starnews Nigeria, Nigeria is in the 8th position despite the herders’ crisis across the 36 States of the country.

The table above shows that South Africa was the largest producer of beef in Africa in 2019 followed by Tanzania and Kenya.

Recall that in recent times, violence between herders and farmers has alarmingly grown in Nigeria, which has spread from the north to the central and now to the southern states of the country.

Violence between the two groups has claimed more lives than the Boko Haram jihadist insurgency disrupting rural communities and threatening Nigeria’s stability and food security as a result of the quest by herders to search for greener pasture and water.

The desperation for greener pastures and water has pushed herders from the north to the south resulting in almost daily clashes between the farming communities and the Fulani herdsmen.
