The hope of winning future elections by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State received a major boost on Monday as a former member of the House of Representatives, honourable Mike Adeniyi Omogbehin returned to the party.

Starnews Nigeria reports that Omogbehin represented Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency of Ondo State at the Federal House of Representatives in Abuja between 2015 -2019.
Popular opinion rated him as the most performing Lawmaker who has ever represented the Constituency to date.

He left the PDP for the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in the wake of the Ondo State Governorship Election last year.

Some members of the PDP celebrated his return to the party on Facebook yesterday (Monday) when he rejoined the PDP in his country home at Igbotako Ward I of Okitipupa Local Government of the State.

He was received by the party’s Senatorial Chairman in Ondo South, Elder Amos Fadope and a member of the State Executive, Mr Adeolu Akinseye who led other party Senatorial executives, Local Government Executives and Ward Executives at Igbotako town to welcome the former Lawmaker back home.

Starnews Nigeria gathered that Omogbehin was officially issued a PDP membership card at his ward in Igbogako on Tuesday morning by leaders and party executives amid funfair.

Speaking with our correspondent on Tuesday, Omogbehin confirmed his return and that of his followers to the PDP with a promise to join other stakeholders in rebuilding the party.

“My brother, I am back home and I didn’t come alone; I have returned with all my followers across the two local governments in my federal constituency to join other stakeholders to rebuild the PDP,” he told Starnews Nigeria in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Tuesday.

While Receiving Omogbehin, Elder Amos Fadope, the party’s Senatorial Chairman in Ondo South, said the unity of the PDP under his tenure is his priority to reclaim the party’s lost glory in the south following the failure of the party in the last gubernatorial election due to division.

He said: “I appreciate Hon Omogbehin for returning home and I sincerely extend my gratitude to Baba Oluwatoyin, a pioneer Elder of the PDP for joining our Honourable to return home. The two of you were leaders of this party before you left and I want to assure you that you would still be treated as leaders of this great party now that you are back.”

“There is no second class citizen. Everyone will be treated equally and would be given equal rights. I promise to do more as the Senatorial Chairman in reuniting the PDP in the south.”

“We need to unite the party to reclaim our lost glory in the south following our failure in the last gubernatorial election due to division among us. During my tenure as the Senatorial Chairman, my priority is to reclaim the party’s lost glory in future elections by uniting everyone,” he said.

Reactions trail Omogbehin’s return to PDP

Meanwhile, reactions have continued to trail the return of Omogbehin to the PDP.

Reacting to the news, Senator Nicholas Tofowomo in Abuja on Tuesday congratulated Hon. Mike Adeniyi Omogbehin rejoining the party.
In a statement by his Media Aide, Akinrinlola Olumide, the Ondo South Senator said, Hon. Omogbehin has just returned to the party he rightly belongs to.

“I welcome you back home. Your achievements under the platform of the PDP is meaningful and unbeatable in the history of Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency.

“I respect you a lot for returning home where you rightly belong. I enjoin other members in other political parties to return home as well. The PDP is a party to beat.”

“If Jesus tarries in His coming, together we shall work for the victory of the PDP and take over the seat of power in Abuja come 2023 by the grace of God,” the Senator added.

Dr Eddy Olafeso, the immediate national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-West said the return of Omogbehin and other old Political Titans would open more opportunities for the PDP to be stronger to face future elections.

“I congratulate him on returning home. His return and the coming back of old Political Titans would open more opportunities for the PDP to be stronger to face future elections. We expect more of it,” he said.
