Senate Swears In Smart Adeyemi, Replaces Dino Melaye

Senate President Ahmed Lawan has swore-in Senator Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Adeyemi is replacing Senator Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who lost the rerun in the Kogi West senatorial election. The swearing-in was done by the Clerk of the Senate, Nelson Ayewoh, at the start of plenary. Adeyemi is returning to the Senate about five years after he lost the seat to  Melaye at the 2015 election.

Nigerians Should Please Forgive Dino- Smart Adeyemi

The winner of the supplementary senatorial election for Kogi West, Smart Adeyemi, has begged Nigerians to forgive what he called the misdemeanor of his co-contestant, Dino Melaye, saying that did not represent the true character of Okun people. Adeyemi made the appeal on Sunday while thanking the people for returning him to the Senate. He promised not to disappoint them and the people he would be representing. INEC declares Kogi West Senatorial election inconclusive

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Sunday declared as inconclusive the rerun of election in Kogi West Senatorial District held on Saturday because the margin of win was less than the total cancelled votes. It said that it would later announce a date for supplementary election in the area. INEC said the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Smart Adeyemi, scored a total of 80,118 votes while the Peoples Democratic Party Senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Dino Melaye, scored 59,548 votes.
