The convicted Chief Whip of the Senate, Orji Kalu, will continue to receive his salaries and all other entitlements while in prison, the Senate has said. This is despite that he will not be performing any legislative function from prison. The spokesperson of the Senate, Godiya Akwashiki, disclosed this to PREMIUM TIMES on Sunday. The Senate on Thursday passed the 2020 appropriation bill (budget). In passing the budget, the lawmakers increased the total sum from 10.330,416,607 to 10.594,362,364. The Senate also increased the benchmark price of crude from 55$ to 57$, however, the exchange rate at N305 to 1$ was retained. Senate Threatens To Issue Arrest Warrant Against NIMASA Boss Peterside
The Senate joint committee on Navy, Maritime and Finance has threatened to issue a warrant of arrest on the DG NIMASA Dakuku Peterside. During plenary on Wednesday, the Committee said the reason it might issue an arrest warrant is due to the alleged failure of Mr. Peterside to appear before the panel.
