Customs arrests Lagos airport passenger with $8.6m

The Nigeria Customs Service, has on Tuesday intercepted over $6.8 million from a passenger at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport. A source who disclosed this to The Nation, said an airport worker linked with the movement of the money has been arrested. President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to secure the country, and bring corruption to it’s bearest minimum before leaving office. Just In: Customs seize 34 containers of rice at seaport

The Nigeria Customs Service has announced the seizure of 34 containers of rice smuggled through the Tin Can Island port. The Comptroller General of Customs, Hameed Ali (retd), disclosed this in Lagos on Tuesday. One container of rice was concealed with spare parts, he disclosed further. He said in addition to the 34 containers of rice, the service also intercepted 11 containers of unregistered pharmaceutical products, two containers of used tyres, one container of used clothing and four containers of refined vegetable oil in retail packs, bringing the total to 52 containers of seized contraband. Customs Making over N5bn Daily Since Border Closure, Says Ali

The Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Hameed Ali, wednesday, told the National Assembly members that the agency has been raking in between N4.7bn and N5.8 bn since the federal government closed the nation’s borders. Ali stated this when he appeared before the Senate and House of Representatives joint committees on Finance and National Planning, working on the 2020-2022 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper. Customs begins online auction of seized vehicles, goods

The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has commenced electronic (online) auction of contrabands, including exotic cars of different brands seized from smugglers in Imo/Abia and Edo/Delta commands. Controller of Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Owerri, Comptroller Kayode Olusemire, who made the disclosure while conducting newsmen round the latest seizures made in the zone, l said that the auction, which will be done through the internet will be conducted every Monday and Wednesday for the next one month. How To Apply For Custom Recruitment Exercise of 3,200 Personnel

The Nigerian Customs Service is set to recruit 3,200 personnel to fill positions in the agency. The positions to be occupied by prospective entrants include Assistant Inspector (Support Staff) – CONSOL 06, Assistant Inspector (General Duty) – CONSOL 06, Customs Assistant (Support Staff) Grade 11 – CONSOL 04, and, Assistant Superintendent of Customs II (Support Staff).
