Borno citizens disown Shettima, back Ndume for senate presidency

Sequel to Governor Kassim Shettima’s backing of Ahmad Lawan for the senate presidency in the Ninth Assembly on account of his adoption by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a group, Concerned Borno Citizens, has, instead, supported Muhammed Ali Ndume’s aspiration. In statement by its spokesman, Alhaji Yakubu Kwangyang Umar, the prominent citizens stated that the governor spoke only for himself. Senate Presidency: Borno Governor Disowns Ndume, Supports Lawan

Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State has said that although, senator Ali Ndume, is his kinsman, he would not defy the All Progressives Congress’ choice of Ahmad Lawan for the position of Senate President. Lawan and Ndume are two major contenders for the position of Senate President. Mr Ndume is from Borno State while Mr Lawan represents neighbouring Yobe State in the Senate. Messrs Ndume and Shettima are political allies in Borno State.
