BREAKING: Senate Passes 2020 Budget
The Senate on Thursday passed the 2020 appropriation bill (budget). In passing the budget, the lawmakers increased the total sum from 10.330,416,607 to 10.594,362,364. The Senate also increased the benchmark price of crude from 55$ to 57$, however, the exchange rate at N305 to 1$ was retained. President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan had announced on Wednesday that the 2020 Appropriation bill before the parliament will be passed today the 5th of December. Buhari imposes travel ban on ministers, head of agencies pending budget defence
President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday barred all ministers and heads of federal agencies from travelling abroad pending their defence of the 2020 budget before the National Assembly. A statement issued in Abuja by Mr Willie Bassey, Director Information, Office of Secretary to the Government of the Federation, said the order was with immediate effect. “The suspension of such travels will enable functionaries and agencies of the Executive Arm to provide the required cooperation with the Legislature in order to ensure timely passage of the Appropriation Bill,” the statement said. Senator Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central senatorial district, has lambasted the 2020 appropriation bill presented to a joint session of the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday. The President presented N10.7trillion for the year 2020 budget estimates. Buhari also said that N125 billion was allocated to the National Assembly, while N110 billion was allocated to the Judiciary.
