Banji Okunomo, the leading governorship aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has blasted Hon. Agboola Ajayi, the state deputy governor over what he described as a political scam to protect his job.

Starnews NG reports that the former State Publicity Secretary of the PDP said on Monday in Akure that the deputy governor is insulting the sensibilities of the PDP members over his rumoured defection in the last one month.

According to Okunomo, Agboola is only devising a political strategy to become the deputy governorship candidate of governor Akeredolu who has reportedly planned to drop him for the second term ticket.

“My attention has been drawn to a publication purporting that some persons are planning to impose the state deputy governor who is not a member of the PDP on our party as a consensus candidate in Ondo State.”

”This information is not true. It is only from the pit of hell and a figment of the imagination of the perpetrator.”

”It is a political scam introduced by the deputy governor and his camp to protect his job. We know him very well and we understand his style of politics. He is only planning to restore his relationship with the governor to get the ticket of deputy governorship candidate of Ondo APC again”

The outspoken Okunomo and the former chairman of Ilaje local government council further revealed that there was no time the leadership of the PDP discussed automatic ticket with the deputy governor.

He said the PDP is a party with rules and guidelines which has repeatedly assured all the aspirants of a level playing field through the National Publicity Secretary and that the party has ruled out an automatic ticket to anyone no matter how highly placed.

”I am confident of the fact that the six governorship aspirants who have already obtained the expression of interest and nomination forms are sophisticated and well equipped with political resumes that cannot be subjugated or subsumed under the subterfuge of a non-member of the PDP”.

”The deputy governor should stop insulting our sensibilities in the PDP over his defection rumour. He should stop using the PDP to protect his job. If he wants to join the party, he should come and join.

”But he should stop using the name of PDP as a strategy to win the heart of his boss to stabilise his position”, Okunomo added.
