The outgoing Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki is said to have been averse to the candidacy of Senator Ahmad Lawan owing to the way the ruling party is going with his candidature, Starnews reports.

The London trained medical doctor also fears that the Senate under Lawan’s leadership will not be “bold” and “courageous” enough to deepen our Democracy by insisting on an independent Senate, hence, he plans to intervene few hours to the senate inauguration.

A few other senators are reportedly playing along with Saraki, preferring the candidacy of Senator Ali Ndume who they said is more humble, accessible and will enhance the Independence of the Senate as an experienced-long term serving senator of the federal republic of Nigeria in the 9th Senate.

While the intrigues went on, many lawmakers, especially of the PDP, are said to have been indecisive waiting to follow the lead of the outgoing Senate President, Saraki, before they could finally decide on where to stamp their votes on the 11th of June when the Senate will be inaugurated.

Starnews gathered that the ongoing gimmicks and intrigues for the position of the president of the 9th Senate took a new dimension after the senate president allegedly have a change of mind to give support to an independent person who would not jeopardise the Independence of the legislative arm of government following the alleged rascality of the executive.

The recent withdrawal of the licenses of African Independent Television (AIT) and Raypower FM by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) may not be unconnected with the alleged decision by Saraki to intervene in the election of the leadership of the 9th Senate in a bid to save democracy, starnews has learnt.
