  • We never spoke for ourselves but Ondo South, Bitire replies critics on zoning

Solomon Bitire, a former local government party chairman of chairmen of PDP in Ondo State on Wednesday, replied his critics over the open letter written to Alhalji Atiku Abubakar and Uche Secondus, National Chairman of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) where they demanded zoning on behalf of PDP leaders in Ondo South ahead of the gubernatorial election in the state.

Starnews NG had reported on January 27, 2020, that Bitire and High Chief Daisi Mafimisebi, a former local government party chairman of PDP wrote to PDP national leaders on behalf of Ondo South PDP’s leaders, explaining why the party may lose this year’s governorship election in Ondo State if the party’s candidate does not emerge from the Southern Senatorial District of the state.

In an interview with our correspondent at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Bitire, said no justification from any quarter could erase the fact that Dr. Olusegun Mimiko from Ondo Central Senatorial District was a two-term governor of Ondo State for good 8 years between 2009 – 2017, unlike late Olusegun Agagu whose second year was aborted by the court.

He insisted that himself and Chief Mafimisebi never spoke for themselves but for PDP leaders in Ondo South.

”Some of our critics never understand the politics of PDP as we do. Nobody can erase history. It is very obvious that Dr. Olusegun Mimiko from Ondo Central Senatorial District was a two-term governor of this state for good 8 years uninterrupted between 2009 – 2017, unlike late Olusegun Agagu whose second year was aborted by the court.

”No Senatorial district is inferior to another in terms of competence, so people should not go into that when we talk about zoning because all the Senatorial districts have qualified and competent people who are aspiring to be governor under our party, the PDP.

”But we are talking about justice and fairness here my brother. We are talking about the deciding factor in winning elections in Ondo State. The truth is, history has shown that where a political party fails to consider zoning, the electorates will zone it with their votes.”

”We are not backing down on our agitation for zoning; and on this, we are not alone. Neither are we speaking for ourselves, but we are speaking on behalf of Ondo South PDP leaders”, he said.
